UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITIAN AND NORTHERN IRELAND
Lying to the northwest of Continental Europe, Great Britian with a population of nearly 60 million is the ninth largest island in the world, and largest in Europe. Ireland is to its west and is surrounded by over 1000 smaller islands and islets. The term 'British' includes all citizens of United Kingdom including Welsh, Scottish, English and Northern Irish. London is the capital of United Kingdom where as Cardiff and Edinburgh are capital cities of Wales and Scotland respectively.
England, Scotland and Wales are mostly situated on the island of Great Britian and together with Northern Ireland it makes up the United Kingdom of Great Britian and Northern Ireland.
1) England
England, is a country on the island of Great Britian and is a part of the United Kingdom. It accounts for more than 83% of the total UK population. The English common law legal system is the foundation of most legal sytems in most English speaking countries. 2) Scotland
Scotland is a country located in the northern part of Great Britian. It consists of over 790 islands. Scottish economy has been dominated by heavy industry such as the shipbuilding in Glasgow, coal mining, steel industries and petroleum related industries associated with the extraction of North Sea oil. Edinburgh is the financial services centre of Scotland with many large finance firms based there, including: the Royal Bank of Scotland (the second largest bank in Europe); HBOS (owners of the Bank of Scotland); and Standard Life. Tourism is widely recognised as a key contributor to the Scottish economy as well. 3) Wales
Wales (Welsh: Cymru) is a country that is part of the United Kingdom, bordered by England to its east, and the Atlantic Ocean and Irish Sea to its west. Cardiff, its largest city and the capital was, for a period the biggest coal port in the world. Many tourists have been drawn to Wales's "wild... and picturesque" landscapes. In the 70s the Welsh economy faced massive restructuring with large numbers of jobs in traditional heavy industry disappearing and being replaced eventually by new ones in light industry and in services. 4) Northern Ireland
This flag has no official status in Northern Ireland and is the flag of free state Ireland. The only official flag in Northern Ireland is the Union Flag. Northern Ireland is a country that is part of the United Kingdom situated in the north-east of the island of Ireland. The Northern Ireland economy is the smallest of the four economies making up the United Kingdom. Northern Ireland has traditionally had an industrial economy, most notably in shipbuilding, rope manufacture and textiles, but most heavy industry has since been replaced by services, primarily the public sector. Tourism also plays a big role in the local economy. More recently the economy has benefited from major investment by many large multi-national corporations into high tech industry.
